| Help our bedroom grow up :-) |

I'm thinking of posting this question to Apartment Therapy, but I'm not sure if I'm asking the question right. Feedback on both how I'm asking, or on the actual room itself would be cool. Thanks :-)

Our family moved a few months ago from a 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom apartment. The smaller of the two rooms (9x12) has a full wall mirrored closet, which we didn't feel comfortable leaving our toddler unsupervised around, so we gave him the larger room. I love having our own room, but our queen sized bed feels huge in it. The futon mattress is on part of our old futon frame, which we stopped using due to tipping issues. I'm considering the Mandal bed from Ikea or the Anders bed from Room and Board. I can afford Ikea now, but I'd be willing to save for the Anders if I thought it was the right choice.
Another issue is that my husband has this "security blanket" which you see in the picture. He's had it since he was a small child and has to have it on the bed. He's willing to replace it, but only if I find him a blanket as comfortable. It's an acrylic-polyester "Mink" blanket, and I could find a solid color version of it, but I'd rather go natural. Any machine washable less than $200 natural fiber fluffy blanket ideas out there?
I'm also thinking of buying two smaller dressers and putting them in the closet instead of the large one at the end. The chest could also go in the closet. I'm also thinking of curtains, both for the window and the closets, but haven't made it that far. There's a heater under the window so we can't push anything right next to it.
I'd like a grown-up looking room that doesn't feel too crowded, while keeping a queen sized bed. Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, riela! :)
I'd say wall art and curtains would probably help... And maybe raising up your futon with cinderblocks and throwing on a dust ruffle? That would give you more storage space underneath the bed too. But definitely the curtains and wall art. :) Just my two cents. | |
